Tell a partner 5 words that come to mind when you hear the word taxes or taxation.
This is why April is not everybody's favourite month in Canada.

  2. Role play: Breaching a Contract
    1. List 5 new words/expressions.
    2. Make sentences using those words/expressions meaningfully.
    3. Check with a partner before posting.
  3. In less than 60 seconds, record yourself on Chirbit.com telling your lawyer friend about a bad car that you bought from a dealer.
    1. Give details about the model, make, year, and price of the car.
    2. Describe how you feel and hope to achieve, using some of the new words/expressions you have learnt.
    3. Publish your audio link, and then comment on three classmates' audio.

Read about the Small Business Forum that you have registered for, and make a checklist of:
  1. presentations/sessions you’d like to attend:
    1. keynotes, 
    2. panel discussions, and 
    3. breakouts
  2. classmates you will be travelling, attending, or having lunch with; 
  3. people you want to talk to; 
  4. trade show brochures you’d like to collect; and 
  5. souvenirs you’d like to pick up.
Then:
  • Create a table in Word and copy it over to your blog.
  • Discuss your points with partner, and add at least 5 more points.
  • Publish your checklist.

What are you paying for car insurance or transport? What percentage of your monthly expenditure is that?
Trick or treat?
Here are your tasks:
  1. Role play: Buying Auto Insurance
  2. Find your highest and lowest rates here.
    1. How do they compare with the rest of Canada (see the table at the end of the article)?
    2. Consider this political promise; tell a partner what you think of it following yesterday's field trip.
    3. Create a pretend phone recording asking for a quote.
  3. Write an email to cancel your insurance policy, giving reasons and using as many of the new words and ideas you have learnt.

This Thursday's field trip is to the provincial seat of government, the Ontario Legislative Building at Queen's Park.



Please be there around 10:30 as the guided tour starts at 11 a.m.
If you are late, you may miss the tour.
But come on time, come with curious minds, and welcome to where laws are made in Ontario!
And after that, who knows, but we might do a surprise walking tour to a surprise destination!
