Write a trip report of the Farintosh Farm visit. Include pictures from Facebook. Check with a partner for any typos before posting. Then comment on your classmates' blogs.
The government is supposed to work for you. But suppose you work for the government. Would that be something you'd like to do?
Here are your tasks:
- Compare federal, provincial, and municipal job opportunities
- What is similar/different about them--requirements, rewards, etc.?
- What jobs do you qualify for? Publish your findings on your blog.
When you have finished the above, check out the latest sunshine list. How many of these are government jobs? How many are TTC workers? Is your teacher's name there? Discuss with a partner your feelings and thoughts about the sunshine list.
Yesterday's trip with three classes from MicroSkills was blessed with beautiful weather and smooth travel. We were not sure if we had enough cars for the car pool, but it all worked out. It was a joy having Hong, Jane, Monique, Yucho, Chairyoung, Meizi, and Fottima in my car. We even gave a ride ot Yvonne from Workplace English when she met us at Don Mills Station.
The first thing we did there was to take lots of group photos. We found the flower patch irresistible with everything in full bloom. Karen Farintosh, who owns the farm with her husband, Guy, came by to say they were shorthanded for service to our large group and that we should have called ahead. She also told us we were allowed to harvest in only two places: the callaloo patch and the bean patch. We were greatly disappointed that corn was not available for harvest as in previous years.
While some went to gather from the fields, the rest of us picked up various produce from the store. I bought a nice watermelon and two ears of corn, which I later ate raw straight off the cob. By 11:30, we were all tired and ready to head for home. So we all piled in and headed back down 404 for home!
It was another great field trip to remember, a field trip to the fields! Thank God!
