Forewarned and Forearmed for Business

As the old English saying goes, "Forewarned is forearmed."

Stepping into the business battle without a clear idea and a solid plan could could cost you an arm and a leg. So this morning's Enterprise Toronto workshop on creating a business plan that works was timely for particpants who are looking to start a small business in this city. Komi, Katie, Ruohong, Ivy, Jinni, and Yana were there to arm up for the enterprise.

Nope, not a business idea. It's just a random shot of what we saw when the doors opened at Eglinton Station.

There were new vocabulary words like benchmarks, key milestones, alliances, SWOT analysis, HR, and fluctuations. And there were no fun and easy ESL handouts.

And the listening was hard. But everyone persevered to the end.

There was a Q&A time with the presenter from TD, Helder Da Silva, at the end, which took us past the alloted time.

After the workshop, we had a walking tour of City Hall, including the Mayor's and councillors' office areas, Service Canada and Service Ontario's bureaux, Enterprise Toronto's resource library, and the City Hall branch of Toronto Public Library.

Parting thought: It's good to think through our business plan to see whether the glass is really half full or half empty.
