So, good morning, and a reminder on our field trip to Bluffers Park and shopping places along Progress Ave. on Thursday, TOMORROW!

Please be sure to wear comfortable clothes and bring an umbrella just in case! Each one needs to organize one game for the entire group. You can bring a soccer ball, a skipping rope, a grand piano, etc.

Parking, according to the GreenP parking website, is as follows:
Monday - Friday
FREE PARKING BEFORE 5pm
Night Maximum (5pm - 9pm):     $3.00

Meeting Time: Everyone will meet at Don Mills Station at 9:30 a.m. in front of the subway station to arrive there by 10 a.m.




One thing the Victorian Era brought to many parts of the world was a legal system that isn't perfect but that offers freedom. Canada benefited from that, and many people come to this country as immigrants and refugees because they like that freedom.

  1. Watch this video and list the kinds of rights and freedoms mentioned. Compare your list with several partners.
  2. Put the list on your blog and write a few sentences (not fragments or run-on sentences) on why you came to Canada, or comparing the freedoms of Canada to those of another country.

This week we start a new series on Canada's celebration focusing, albeit a little belatedly, on Victoria Day.


  1. You have heard Canada's National Anthem, but have you heard our Royal Anthem? Well, here it is! Practise singing alone the Royal Anthem.
  2. Based on the video below, tell a partner three things you never knew until you watched the report.
  3. Find five new words from the Royal Anthem, study their meaning and pronunciation, and make a sentence with each.
  4. Publish a report on your partner's Victoria Day weekend.

Friday's Assignment

Here are this afternoon's tasks to choose from:
  1. Smartphone Fun: Find two partners. Using a smartphone, create a short video (between 1 - 3 minutes) of a father, mother, and child arguing in English about how much to put into an RESP account. Alternatively, do a group job interview involving questions about one's strengths and weaknesses. Upload to Youtube or Vimeo, and embed the link on your blogs.
  2. Networking: Google for activities and venues for this Victoria Day long weekend. On your Facebook status, mention three activities and which one you're considering visiting. Then comment on and/or like your friends' FB status as well.
Bonus:



  1. Last Friday we had a presentation on RRSP, TFSA, and RESP. What do those acronyms stand for? Google for the information, and write in point form about each of them. What plans are you making for the future?
  2. If you have additional time, find three or four partners, and watch the following together: Made for Success and Money Money Money. Keep the volume at a level that does not disturb your other classmates.

This afternoon, you'll be on your own, but your tasks reflect the skills you've already learned, in particular, your tech skills with Audioboo:
  1. Speaking Task: Give a brief description of a typical day at home or at work. Beginning with "Every morning, I ...," record briefly what you do in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Then place the link from Audioboo or AudioPal on your blog.
  2. Reading Task: Read a short news article (print or online) to get the details. Select an article from Newser and take notes answering to W-H questions: Who, Where, What, etc. Post the details with a link to the article on your blog.

  1. Write a report on yesterday’s field trip. Make sure you answer as many WH  questions as you can. If you missed the concert, be sure to interview two of your classmates about it. Include links, pictures, and captions. Blog your report. Comment on two classmates' blogged reports.

Another Wonderful Concert - Hamilton Children's Choir and Toronto Youth



It was an interesting start as those who arrived early by TTC got to see a police-escorted vehicle pull up. Then it happened--in our reserve L5 box, the children entertained with amazing voices and stunning choreography in a program that included a world premier and a North American premier, all capped with an encore piece. Make sure to interview each other for all the juicy details!

Field Trip Thursday: Concert at Roy Thomson Hall







Be at the coffeeshop inside Don Mills Station by 10 a.m. and depart westbound for Sheppard Yonge. Transfer to a southbound train and get off at St. Andrew Station. Follow signage to Roy Thomson Hall.


Enjoy one of Canada's wonderful gifts to the world, as the Hamilton Children's Choir and Young Voices of Toronto present Sound Tapestry.
